Like father, like son.
Professional baseball in Cedar Rapids has been ripe with father-son combinations, and the Kernels have an exhibit honoring these individuals.
The display can be found in the back of the Kernels souvenir shop, next to the Hall of Fame plaques, and features photos, baseball cards, and autographed baseballs.
Created in 2009, the idea for the exhibit came about as a way to commemorate Father's Day and recognize each father and son impact on the history of Cedar Rapids baseball. The display highlights various father-son duos who have been involved in professional baseball in Cedar Rapids. The roles range from players, coaches, front office staff, board of directors, and grounds crew.
Hanging above the case is a list of each father and son and a quote that reads, "My father always told me, 'Find a job you love and you'll never have to work a day in your life.'"
Among the father-son combos are Jack (former Kernels General Manager) and Jesse Roeder (current head groundskeeper), Chris (1977 player) and Peter Bourjos (2007 player), Pedro (1966 player) and Pedro Borbon Jr. (2007 coach), Clyde (1964 player) and Damon Mashore (2008 coach), and Bob and Rob Brooks (members of the board of directors).
