Cheryl Gotto wanted new carpet in her permanent home in the Linden Acres area on Lake Delhi, but not like this.
Gotto and her husband, Jerry, have lived on the property at 26355 212th Avenue since 1993, and had never seen anything quite like this.
Flood water had never come this close to the couple's home. Before it had come up to the first step on the deck, and even then it had several feet to go before reaching the first floor den.
But at midnight Saturday, the couple awoke to high water creeping up the deck. Cheryl looked at the backyard and saw “a pond” outside. The couple grabbed what they absolutely needed and took off to go to a friend's house.
Now, on Sunday, a day after the water reached record level, the couple has spent time with friends and family cleaning up the mess and throwing out furniture, carpet, appliances and other possessions.
