Iowa regents approve new sites for Hancher, School of Music

State regents today approved two new sites for the University of Iowa's Hancher Auditorium and School of Music.
UI officials want to replace the flood-damaged facilities at two separate sites: Hancher at a site north and west of the current auditorium, and the School of Music at a site downtown near the intersection of Burlington and Clinton streets.
Building the School of Music downtown is contingent on the UI negotiating to purchase that private property downtown. If UI officials are not able to reach agreement by April, they will instead move forward with a backup plan to build the School of Music near the rebuilt Hancher.
Both facilities were heavily damaged in the June 2008 flood.
