Harshman, Betty Helen

Betty Helen Harshman, 88, of Murchison, Texas, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died June 9, 2011, in Tyler, Texas. Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 24, at Cedar Memorial Park Chapel of Memories. Interment will be in the rotunda at the Cedar Memorial Mausoleum. There will be no visitation.
Survivors include two daughters, Tammy (Arden) Noecker of Murchison, Texas and Roxanne Harshman of Tucson, Ariz.; seven grandchildren, Sharon (Kelly) LeVelle of Center Point, Tracie Harshman and Scotty Harshman of Cedar Rapids, Dr. Tiffany Noecker-Ziegler of Chicago, Adrienne Noecker-Gaston of Incirlik, Turkey and Erynn Noecker and Deirdre Noecker of Tyler, Texas; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Harshman; a son, Jerome Harshman; and her parents.
Betty was born April 10, 1923, in Bloomington, Ill. She was adopted shortly after birth and raised in Dwight, Ill. She married Clifford Harshman in Bellingham, Wash., in 1947. She received her education at Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids and was coordinator of social services in the Department of Planning and Urban Development for the city of Cedar Rapids for 23 years. She was a long-standing secretary of the Cedar Rapids Pony Club from 1968-1975. In 2008, she left her residence at Garnett Place in Cedar Rapids and moved to her daughter's home in Texas. She loved youngsters and all of God's creatures.
As a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend, Betty will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
