Garwood, Viroqua V.
Viroqua V. Garwood, 84, died Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at Virginia Gay Nursing & Rehab in Vinton following an extended illness. Services: 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton, with the Rev. Karen Larson officiating. Visitation: 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Private committal services: Evergreen Cemetery, Vinton.
Viroqua was born Oct. 23, 1924, to Wilbur and Althea Winegard, and graduated from East Waterloo High School. On Jan. 10, 1943, she was united in marriage to Jack D. Garwood at Waterloo. Viroqua served as receptionist and cashier for Benton County REC before her retirement.
She is survived by her husband, Jack of Vinton; her sister, Helen Freh of Minnesota; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Her son, Jerry Garwood, preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 2008. She was also preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
