Hawkeye wrestlers sweep; move to 7-0

Nov. 27, 2009 9:49 pm
The top-ranked University of Iowa wrestling team improved to 7-0 with dual wins over Bucknell (29-7) and Rutgers (33-9) on Friday at Lewisburg, Pa.
Six Hawks went 2-0, including Matt McDonough at 125, 133-pounder Dan Dennis and Jay Borschel at 174. McDonough had a pin and tech fall, Dennis a tech fall and a najor decision over Bucknell's rated David Marble and Borschel had two majors. All three have scored bonus points in each of the Hawkeyes' duals this season.
Seniors Brent Metcalf, top-ranked at 149, Dan LeClere (141) and Chad Beatty each went 2-0 as well.
The two wins ties a school record for consecutive dual road victories. The Hawks have won 31 straight duals on the road, matching the mark set from 1994-97. Iowa has won a record 45 straight duals overall.
Iowa has a chance to set a new record in grand fashion. The Hawkeyes next dual is against rival Iowa State on Dec. 6 in Ames at 6 p.m.
