Fay, Irene Lillian
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Virgil Nelson.
Irene was born Dec. 14, 1934, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Vernon and Lila (Sauer) Nelson. She graduated from Marion High School. Irene married Vernon Fay on Aug. 1, 1955. Vernon passed away on Oct. 29, 2008. Irene worked for Collins Radio for 10 years, and retired from Cedar Rapids School's food service after 20 years. She enjoyed quilting, sewing and bowling, and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren. Irene also enjoyed many church activities and volunteered for Green Square Meals and Road to Recovery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Alzheimer's Association of East Central Iowa, 317 Seventh Ave. SE, Suite. 402, Cedar Rapids, IA 52401, in Irene's memory.
