Adney, John G.
John G. Adney, 72, of 2225 Northview Dr., Marion, died Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a long illness. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Saturday, June 5, at Grace Episcopal Church, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Grace Episcopal columbarium. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home in Cedar Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; three sons, Matthew of Colorado Springs, Colo., Christopher of Chicago and Charles (Dawn) of Cedar Rapids; two daughters, Marla Adney of Omaha, Neb., and Elizabeth Benn of Sun Prairie, Wis.; and one brother, Robert of Clinton. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Portia (Daniel), Jacob, Madeliene, Connor, Danielle, Charles, Toben and Greenlee; one great-grandchild, Aston; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John was born Dec. 11, 1937, in Clinton, the son of John and Edith Gohlmann Adney. He married Patricia L. Waters on Aug. 3, 1957, in Sterling, Ill. John owned and operated the North Iowa Times in McGregor and Four Rivers Senior Journal in Cedar Rapids. His capacity in both papers was editor, reporter and publisher. John was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, where he had been a deacon for 10 years as well as being a published writer.
He enjoyed gardening, photography, playing the organ and piano and especially spending time with his beloved family.
A memorial fund has been established in John's name.
