Sidmore, Leona Marie
Leona Marie Sidmore, 78, of Coralville, passed away Sunday, June 9, 2013, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. Funeral services will be 9 a.m. Friday, June 14, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Coralville. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetery near Coulter, Iowa. A visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Lensing Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Iowa City Animal Shelter.
Leona was born April 12, 1935, in Chino, Calif., the daughter of Clarance and Martha (Pedersen) Larsen. She was baptized May 26, 1935, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Los Angeles. Leona graduated from Franklin Community High School on May 19, 1953. She married Clark Sidmore on Nov. 5, 1955, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Coulter.
Leona worked for Sears & Roebuck for 30 years before retiring in 1998. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Christian Women's organization, and volunteered for the Free Lunches in Iowa City.
In her free time, Leona enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed planting flowers, sewing quilts and she loved to cook.
Leona is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Michael) Mitchell of Swisher; two brothers, Ralph (Marge) Larsen of Freemont, Neb., and Donald (Dilene) Larsen of Emmetsburg; one sister, Avon (Dennis) Lemke of Dows, Iowa; one grandson, Dane (Brianna) Guyer of North Liberty; two stepgrandchildren, Len Mitchell of Cedar Rapids and Laura (Travis) Sheely of Amana; a stepgreat-grandson, Dylan Sheely; and a great-granddaughter, Ava Marie on the way.
Leona was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clark Sidmore.
