Thompson, Mildred Mae
Mildred Mae Thompson, 95, of Fountain Hills, Ariz., formerly of Buck Creek and Monticello, died Tuesday, May 31, 2011, at Fountain Hills Manor. Funeral services will be held 10:30 Monday morning, June 13, at Goettsch Funeral Home, Monticello, where friends may register after 9:30. A celebration of life luncheon will be held at the Monticello Veterans Center following interment in Oakwood Cemetery. The Rev. Al Polito will officiate at the services.
Mildred is survived by one child: a daughter, Blanche (her husband, Doc) Donovan of Fountain Hills, Ariz.; one grandchild, Dr. Pamela (her husband, Kurt) Berens of Houston, Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Donovan, Pauline, Dylan and Nolan Berens. She had many nieces and nephews plus friends.
Mildred Mae Thompson was born on the family farm near Delhi, Iowa in Delaware County on Feb. 13, 1916. She attended school in Hopkinton and Buck Creek, Iowa. On Feb. 15, 1933, she married Maurice C. Thompson at the Methodist Church in Galena, Ill. The couple entered into farming in the Delaware County, Iowa area. They operated the Buck Creek school buses and in 1975, moved to Monticello, Iowa.
Beginning in 1979, the couple spent their winter months in Englewood, Fla. Maurice died in 1995. Mildred moved to Houston, Texas in 2005 and Fountain Hills, Ariz. in 2010.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; her parents; one sister, Alberta; and six brothers, Howard, Clarke, Brownie, Vernon, Raymond and William.
Mildred enjoyed her many friends, doing crafts and crocheting. She was very proud and fond of her granddaughter and her great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to Camp Courageous, Monticello, Iowa or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E. Flower St., Phoenix, AZ 85014 (who cared for her for the past 12 months).
