Ramm, Gerald 'Jerry' J.
Gerald “Jerry” J. Ramm, 86, of Cedar Rapids, died Monday, Dec. 5, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center. Services: 10 a.m. Friday, St. Matthew Catholic Church by the Rev. David Beckman. Burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. A vigil service will be held 4 p.m. Thursday at Teahen Funeral Home where friends may visit from 3 to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 9 a.m. Friday at the church.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Betty; a son, David (Cheryl) of Keystone; four daughters, Linda (Keith) Weber of Toddville, Beverly (Gary) Kotowske, Connie Fillenworth and Jane Ramm, all of Cedar Rapids; a stepson Steve McGrane of St. Paul, Minn.; 11 grandchildren, Scott, Kim, Sheree, Madelyne, Jared, Bethany, Luke, Zach, Brian, Samantha and Brooke; and eight great-grandchildren, Kyle, Mason, Allison, Colten, Bryce, Ayden, Peyton and Zain.
Jerry was preceded in death by his first wife, Murella; son-in-law, Terry Fillenworth; a brother, Louis Ramm; and two sisters, Elizabeth Diesburg and Alberta Ramm.
Gerald was born Jan. 16, 1925, in Farley, the son of Francis (Frank) and Alvina Burlage Ramm. He graduated from St. Clements High School in Bankston in 1942. He married Murella Jahn on May 28, 1949, in Dubuque. She died June 1, 1983. On July 31, 1987, he married Elizabeth “Betty” McGrane in Cedar Rapids. Jerry and Murella farmed for many years in Bankston before moving to Cedar Rapids in 1966. Jerry was a semipro baseball player for several years. Jerry retired after 21 years from Penick and Ford Company. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, the Holy Name Society, the Fraternal Order of the Eagles Club Aerie 2272, the Knights of Columbus, the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers Local 100G and a former member of St. Jude Catholic Church.
Jerry enjoyed cards and was an avid euchre player participating in many tournaments. He always took time to enjoy dancing, fishing, riding his bike, bowling, and working outdoors. He above all loved spending time with his family.
