New library is stunning

Oh, happy day! Kudos to all who participated in the planning and construction of the new downtown library. And to the City Council for the role they played in making this dream come true.
Who would have imagined that such a beautiful facility would replace the building that was destroyed in 2008? Everything from the rooftop garden to the children's department reflects the care that was taken to make the building beautiful, energy efficient, and a community activities center.
On my first visit, I observed a room full of children enthralled by the guitar-playing singer who was leading them through the interactive lyrics. It was one of several tearful moments for me.
The completion of this project gives an important lift to Cedar Rapids - just driving by and seeing the building in all its glory brings a feeling of joy. If you haven't made a visit to the library yet, I urge you to do so soon. It is stunning!
