Iowa reports 100 new COVID-19 cases Monday, no new confirmed deaths

Iowa added 100 new COVID-19 cases Monday, bringing the number of people in the state who have tested positive for the virus to 367,795, according to Iowa Department of Public Health data.

Iowa’s seven-day average for cases was 311, the lowest seven-average recorded since June 22.

VACCINATIONS

As of Monday afternoon, the number of fully vaccinated Iowans was 1,151,597, or 36.5 percent of the state’s population. That’s an increase of 5,707 from Sunday.

The number of people who have been fully vaccinated within the state, non-Iowans included, was 1,198,136.

The state reported 1,101,145 people have completed the Moderna or Pfizer two-shot regimen, while 96,991 people received the single-shot Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

The number of total doses administered in the state as of 1:30 p.m. Monday was 2,515,113.

In Linn County, 91,254 people were fully vaccinated as of Monday. That is 40.25 percent of the county’s total population.

In Johnson County, that number was 71,823, or 47.52 percent of the county’s total population.

NEW CASES

Linn County added six new COVID-19 cases Monday, bringing the total of people who have tested positive for COVID-19 to 20,784. The county’s seven-day average was 19.

Johnson County also reported six new cases for a county total of 14,445 and a seven-day average of 10.

Twenty-two of the new cases were among children up to age 17, bringing the total in that age group to 43,720.

HOSPITALIZATIONS

Across the state, virus hospitalizations went from 170 to 169 during the 24-hour period ending at noon Monday.

The number of intensive-care patients increased from 39 to 45, and the number of patients on ventilators to help them breathe climbed from 12 to 19.

LONG-TERM CARE FACILITIES

Urbandale Health Care Center in Polk County remained on the state’s outbreak list as of Monday afternoon with 19 people sick with the virus.

Since the start of the pandemic, 2,325 people in long-term care facilities have died of COVID-19, accounting for roughly 37 percent of the state’s death toll.

CONFIRMED DEATHS

The state reported no confirmed deaths Monday. Iowa’s death toll remains at 5,985.
