Welshhons, Selma A.
Selma A. Welshhons, 76, of Cedar Rapids, died Dec. 27, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital following a short illness. Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home, with Pastor Dennis Johnson of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, Marion, officiating. A memorial visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Surviving are her sons, Steve and Keith, both of Cedar Rapids; her sister, Janelle Knockle of Marion; her brother, Irvin Benter of Shady Oaks Care Center, Cascade; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Selma Ann Welshhons was born July 15, 1934, in Hopkinton, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Mary (Kurth) Benter. She attended Moss Hill School, a one-room school house, until 8th grade. She was united in marriage to Glenn Welshhons on Feb. 15, 1964, in Cedar Rapids. He preceded Selma in death on Dec. 1, 2010. She was employed as a secretary for over 20 years for the Iowa Department of Transportation. She previously had worked at the Social Security office.
She enjoyed gardening flowers and will be remembered as a hard worker.
She will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Selma's honor.
