Trimble, Thelma J.
Thelma J. Trimble died Dec. 9, 2012, at the Woodlands Care Center. She was 102 years old. A memorial service will be held at St. James Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, preceded by a visitation at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Burial in Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Trimble was an active member of St. James Methodist Church her entire adult life, singing in the choir until well past 101, participating in various church organizations and teaching Sunday School for many years. She was also active in Eastern Star, the local United Nations chapter, various ecumenical groups and many other functions, including serving as a docent at the Usher's Ferry Historical Village and much other volunteer work. In 1989, she was honored by the Meth-Wick Community for her years of volunteer service there, and in 2008 she was a recipient of the Governor's Award for volunteer work. In the last several decades of her life, Mrs. Trimble was also a prolific weaver, weaving over 1,700 rugs which she sold at local church fundraisers.
Mrs. Trimble was born in Bayard, Iowa, on Sept. 23, 1910, but grew up and lived her adult life in Cedar Rapids. In 1928, she married Ocie L. Trimble, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her brother, four sisters and one grandson.
She is survived by her sister, Gwenyth Sharpe, Cedar Rapids; and her children, Thelma L. Trimble, Louisville, Colo., Ocie A. Trimble (Janet), Coralville, Bruce W. Trimble (Bonnie), Menomonie, WIis. and Ralph W. Trimble (Carolyn), Urbana, Ill.
She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
She was blessed with the help of many people-church members and neighbors, as well as relatives-making it possible for her to live in her own house until the last year of her life. The family wishes to thank all who were so generous with their love, time and support. The family also wishes to thank the staff of the Meth-Wick Community for their excellent care and support.
