Letter: Switching party isn’t necessarily bad

On Sept. 13 there was a letter in The Gazette reminding us that Monica Vernon left the Republican Party and became a Democrat ('What does Monica Vernon stand for?”). I believe that Vernon finally saw the white light and stepped into it.

We were fortunate that Vernon was on the Cedar Rapids City Council to help make critical decisions for the 2008 flood recovery and rebuilding Cedar Rapids. She is a proven strategic planner, a seasoned community leader, a committed small business advocate, an authentic voice for progress, and will make a great congress woman. I, too, was a proud Republican most of my life. I became a Democrat only after realizing that 'my party” was no longer the party I knew and trusted. It has moved to the far right and continues to drift toward the Libertarian Party platform.

Please do not believe me. Google: 'Libertarian Party Platform”. This party platform should scare you unless you are a Koch brother and do not care about the environment, public education and health care.

The Koch brothers are strong Libertarians and brag that they will spend nearly a billion dollars to get candidates they want elected in 2016. Check to see where Blum and Ernst stand.

Next, research what the Republican Party has done to North Carolina. It is no longer a state where any Iowan would want to live.

Finally, read the book 'Dark Money”. It will open your eyes.
