James Fye, 87, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 12, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, with Pastor Mike Morgan officiating. Entombment will follow at
the Cedar Memorial Chapel
of Memories Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from
4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the Cedar Memorial Chapel Stateroom.
Following the continued proclamations issued by the Governor, physical distancing must be practiced, which may require a limited number of people allowed into a visitation at one time and limited seating available at services. The use of facial coverings is strongly encouraged
James was born on Aug. 1, 1933, in Backus, Minn., the son of George M. and Estelle (Potter) Fye. He served his country in the U.S. Airforce from 1952-1960 during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Mary Boss on Sept. 28, 1956, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. James worked as a routing man for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids from 1958 until his retirement in 1988. James had many interests throughout his life. He enjoyed fishing and hunting and really loved visits to the casino. Over the years James and Mary spent time riding bicycles together, taking walks and traveling. James also enjoyed collecting stamps, coins and ducks. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and also playing games together.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary of Cedar Rapids; daughter, Nancy Mostaert (Todd) of Marion; four grandchildren, Tonya (John), Mindy (Jeremy) Matthew and Robbie; four great-grandchildren, Hunter, Dakota, Lily and Kayden; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Robert; and siblings, Clifford Fye, Everett Fye, Leslie Fye, Sheldon Fye, Delbert Fye, Hazel Titus, Gladys Fye, Glen Fye, Darrel Fye and Nola Fye.
Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or the American Cancer Society.
