Chaplin, Jack E.
Jack E. Chaplin, 88, of Monticello, died Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 6, at the United Church of Monticello. The Rev, Ed Moreano will officiate at the service. Friends may call starting at 9:30 Saturday morning at the church. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Monticello.
Surviving are his wife, Velma; children, Linda (Robert) Ahlrichs of Monticello and John (Michael Flaherty) Chaplin of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Harlan (Gayle) DeMean of Anamosa and Valerie (Brandon) Boelman of Altoona; and five great-grandchildren, Brook, Jackson, Kate, Brody and Kellen.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Paul Chaplin.
Jack Chaplin was born Oct. 18, 1922, near Sand Springs, Iowa. He was the son of Raymond and Vera (Kester) Chaplin. Jack graduated from the Monticello High School. After high school Jack served his country in the U.S. Army. On Jan. 26, 1949, Jack and Velma Shedek were united in marriage at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He spent most of his life working on the family farm. In his younger years Jack enjoyed trips to the cabin on Lake Delhi, boating and fishing.
Jack was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend and will be missed by those closest to him.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Mercy Medical Center and the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Mercy or the United Church of Monticello.
Thoughts, memories and condolences may be left at
