Lives, property saved by traffic cameras
The Gazette Opinion Staff

So you, state Sen. Brad Zahn, want to ban traffic cameras, apparently because your son was caught by the cameras. It may have saved his life. As a lawmaker you should have said, “Son, slow down and take more time to get where you want to go. Also, pay your fine.”
What next, ban cameras in stores, banks and credit unions? They also help catch law breakers.
In Cedar Rapids in seven months, the cameras caught 55,308 speeders and 2,892 red light violations. You should be putting out education courses for these people.
I'm 85 and have had only one speeding ticket in that time. It was back in 1962 or 1963. It only took one to slow me down to the speed limit.
Please think about it. These cameras are saving property damage and most important lives.
