Letter: Institute sensible gun control policies

To whom do we assign blame for the all too frequent mass shootings occurring in this country? Are we to assume that the blame lies solely with the deranged and/or misguided individuals who pulled the trigger? What about the members of Congress who sold a little bit of their conscience each time they accepted reelection donations from gun control opponents? They then positioned themselves against any sensible gun control measures. What about politicians who foment divisiveness in our country for political gain?

We may know that other countries have instituted sensible gun control measures and are not plagued by mass shootings at the horrendous rate they occur in the United States. If our leaders would choose to examine and implement policies that work in other countries, perhaps mass shootings could be largely averted.

The one thing that citizens can be sure of, regardless of political affiliation, is that these mass shootings will continue unabated unless something is done. The time for smoke screens and unfounded rationalizations on this issue has passed.
