Neppl, Leo W.
During his tour of duty, he returned to Carroll and married Dorothy G. Heue on Aug. 10, 1943, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church. Returning from service he and Dorothy resided in a number of communities until settling near Algona, where they farmed for many years.
In 1991, the couple moved to Iowa City in their retirement to be near family. Here Leo was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, VFW Post 3940, and a past member of the Knights of Columbus.
If you ever knew Leo, you knew he was one of those easy to talk to, one who never met a stranger, and one of those who always believed that the Chicago Cubs would win the World Series! You see the baseball never left this boy.
His family includes children: Thomas Neppl and his wife, Maureen Neppl, of Newburgh, N.Y.; Ruth Lindeen and her husband, Dr. Michael Lindeen, of Coralville; Jane Boehm and her husband, Colin Boehm, of Iowa City; Dave Neppl and his wife, Beth Neppl, of Southlake, Texas; and Steven Nepp and his wife, Barb Nepp, of Waukee; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Grote (Elmer) of Arcadia, Iowa; and one brother, Don Neppl (Millie) of Marietta, Ga.
He was preceded in death by his wife; seven brothers, Wilbur, Elmer, Arthur, Myron, Everett, Earl and Gene: and a sister, Helen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Leo's memory to St. Patrick's Catholic Church or Iowa City Hospice.
Online condolences may be sent for his family through the Web at .
Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Leo's family and his services.
