Gifford, Max Allen
Max Allen Gifford, 88, of West Kelowna, B.C., Canada, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died Oct. 18, 2009, at Kelowna General Hospital, Kelowna, B.C. Funeral services will be Monday in Kelowna.
Max is survived by his wife, Bette; daughters, Cheryl (Jeff) Scott and Gwen (Larry) Shelley; a son, Ted (Dawn) Gifford; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Max was born Oct. 1, 1921, in Marshalltown, Iowa, to James C. and Blanche (Beam) Gifford. He grew up on a farm in Liscomb and was salutatorian of his high school class in 1940. He then attended Northwestern Bible College in Minneapolis. For 15 years he lived in Cedar Rapids and owned the King Koin Launderette. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he was a Sunday school teacher, deacon and a Boys Brigade leader. Max later retired to Lake Havasu City, Ariz., and then moved to West Kelowna, B.C.
He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, photography, farming and his lapidary collection. Most of all he enjoyed serving his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
