The office of county auditor plays a vital role in ensuring that elections are run fairly and efficiently as well as reviewing budgets prepared by county offices. Though the office is important to the democratic process and functioning of local government, county residents are generally best served by an auditor who is rarely seen or heard. Instead, we need someone who efficiently carries out the duties with professionalism and clarity of purpose and applies the same standards of fairness and impartiality to all processes. This latter is essential to ensuring the integrity of county government.
Linn County Democrats have the opportunity on June 5 to nominate Brian Gradoville as county auditor. Brian fits the above description and, as deputy county treasurer, brings 13 years of direct, relevant experience. I have worked with Brian on an annual fundraising event for local non-profits for the past three years - one of many community activities in which he has volunteered.
I believe Brian will be proactive in working with departments during budget preparation so as to minimize the number and scope of problems. His levelheaded approach to applying quality controls, instituting checks and balances and engaging in communication will serve both citizens and government well. Once elected, we'll know Brian is doing his job not because he draws attention to himself, but because we see the more visible functions of our government working efficiently. Please join me in supporting Gradoville for Linn County Auditor.
