Time Check Rec Center demolition begins today
CEDAR RAPIDS - Demolition began Tuesday on the flood-ruined Time Check Recreation Center.
According to Flood Recovery Director Joe O'Hern, the demolition began Tuesday morning and will most likely take a couple days to complete.
The City Council decided not to replace the Recreation Center, previously located at 1131 Fifth St. NW, and is currently forming a task force to identify a site for a new Northwest Recreation Center.
City officials have said they hope the task force could locate a potential new site within a couple months.
According to O'Hern, a previous committee suggested three different options earlier this month, but the council rejected them.
