Wieck no longer mentioned as Iowa's basketball video coordinator; Bowen next?
May. 4, 2010 9:44 am
Former Iowa basketball player Justin Wieck is no longer listed as the Iowa men's basketball team's video coordinator on the team's website.
Wieck, 25, had served as either graduate assistant or video coordinator since 2006. Wieck is a North Liberty native and earned all-state honors as a prep at Iowa City West. He played at Iowa for two seasons, including the team's Big Ten Tournament title team in 2006.
Multiple people close to the Iowa basketball program have told me former Iowa star and Fort Madison native Ryan Bowen is strongly considered to replace Wieck. Attempts to reach Bowen thus far have been unsuccessful.
Bowen, 34, completed a 10-year NBA career earlier this year with Oklahoma City. He also played for Denver, Houston and New Orleans. He now lives in Burlington.
If Bowen is hired as video coordinator, that certainly brings some name recognition to the Iowa basketball staff. That would leave McCaffery in charge of hiring a third assistant coach and a graduate assistant. Iowa also has three open scholarships for next season.
