Rigid requirement for teaching not the best idea
The Gazette Opinion Staff

There should be enough evidence now to inform our governor, State Department of Education director and Legislature that it may not be the best idea to establish such a rigid requirement for teaching, as a 3.0 GPA represents.
Enough highly successful, contributing leaders in education have stepped forward to say that they would be somewhere else today if the 3.0 requirement had barred their entry. It may, however, be worth considering imposing such a requirement to occupy the governor's office and election to the Iowa House and Senate. Iowans might like to know who would pass that test, even if it isn't made a requirement.
After all, these officials have at least as much impact upon our future as our educators.
