Brooks, Eugene 'Poochie'

Eugene “Poochie” Brooks, 72, of Hiawatha, died Friday, Feb. 1, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids. Services: 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Cedar Rapids, by Brother Glen Becker of Church of Christ in Marion. Family will greet friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Inurnment: Linwood Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife, Jan; children, Tony (Alecia) Brooks and Trinda Brooks; grandchildren, Jada, Jon, Nathan and Nicholas; great-granddaughter, Maria; three brothers, Raydell, James and Paul; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Billy Joe Brooks.

Eugene was born March 8, 1940, the son of Melvin and Anna (Doolin) Brooks, in Iowa City, Iowa. On Aug. 26, 1966, he was united in marriage to Janet Stearns. Eugene had worked for FBG Service Corp.

A very quiet leader, Eugene loved the Lord Jesus, enjoyed reading the Bible and was very active in his church. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his children and grandchildren.
