Choate, Edwin James
Edwin James Choate, Jr. of LeClaire, Iowa, died Dec. 13, 2012, in Rock Island, Ill.
“Ted” was born on Sept. 12, 1932, in Chicago, Ill., to Edwin J. and Ruth (Sharky) Choate. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in pharmacy. He worked as a pharmacist for over 50 years and was president of Mays Drug, Inc.
Earlier in life he served in the United States Navy stationed in Cuba, where he met his wife of over 57 years, Lois Rose Pin.
Some of his passions were hunting and fishing with his sons and grandkids, and in later years working the pharmacy on medical missionary trips to Haiti and Peru.
Ted and Lois are members of Our Lady of the River Catholic Church in LeClaire, Iowa.
Five children survive Ted: Edwin N. (Jean E.) Choate of LeClaire, Iowa, Kent A. (Beth) Choate of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Dennis P. (Cheryl L.) Choate of Norway, Iowa, Steven G. (Jeannette) Choate of Menomonee Falls, Wis., and James N. (Vickie) Choate of Swisher, Iowa. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, Tyler, Andy, Ben, Katie, Troy, Kyle, Dan, Ryan, Michelle, Conner and Elle; one great-grandchild, Ava; and his sister-in-law, Sonya Pin.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ralph; and stillborn daughter.
Visitation will be Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m. at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church of LeClaire and Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. The funeral Mass will be held Monday, Dec. 17, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at the Rock Island National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations may be made to Our Lady of the River Catholic Church or Serve Haiti in honor of Ted. McGinnis-Chambers Funeral Home of Bettendorf is assisting the family with arrangements.
