Elson, Gerald (Gerry) Lee
Gerald (Gerry) Lee Elson, 67, of Waukee, Iowa, passed away suddenly Sept. 18, 2013. Per Gerry's instructions, no memorial service will be held.
Gerry was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Jan. 14, 1946, to Paul and Luvina Elson. Gerry attended Washington High School and Kirkwood Community College. His 45-year marriage to Nancy Parker gave them two beautiful daughters.
He was a retired journeyman machinist who could fix anything. He loved working around the house, fixing cars, fishing, writing poetry and making potato cannons. He was always helping his kids and grandkids with whatever they needed. He spent many weekends on the soccer field watching Lauren; on the baseball, basketball and football fields watching Corbin; and watching Kayla do cartwheels in the living room.
Gerry is survived by daughters, Jodi (Dan) Chambers and Paula (Eric) Truitt; grandchildren, Lauren, Corbin, and Kayla; and sister, Marilyn Dunlap. He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Luvina Elson.
In addition to his family, Gerry leaves behind many friends, including special friend Karen Anderson and four-legged friend Nettie.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Gerry's name to the Animal Rescue League.
