CEDAR RAPIDS – Kathy Bresnahan, who guided Iowa City West to the Class 4A state volleyball title four months after the death of senior setter Caroline Found, was honored Tuesday night as the Children of Promise Coach of the Year.
Bresnahan was joined by fellow finalists and high school coaches Matt Haddy (Lisbon), Bill Schwarz (Prairie) and Chuck Tonelli (Metro Alternative) at the 6th annual Coaches For Kids program.
“This is a tremendous organization and to be the first recipient is a huge honor,” Bresnahan said. “You can't do it without the people around you.”
Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz, who was the keynote speaker, and his wife, Mary, were given special recognition by the Children of Promise program.
