Baker, Mary Alice
Mary Alice Baker, 91, of Dyersville, died Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, at Kramer Funeral Home in Dyersville, where an Order of the Eastern Star service will be conducted at 6 p.m. Friends may continue to call after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, at the Colesburg United Methodist Church, where funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Burial: St. Francis Cemetery, Dyersville. The Rev. Allen Craft will officiate.
Mary Alice was born Oct. 9, 1920, in Honey Creek, Ind., the daughter of Joseph and Edith (Haynes) Mauck. She graduated from Sulphur Springs (Ind.) High School with the class of 1939, and married James W. Baker on April 19, 1942, in Middleton, Ind.
Mary Alice worked for the Public Service Co. in New Castle, Ind., as a PPX operator and ran the telephone office switchboard in Sulphur Springs. She also worked for Kraft Foods and was a bookkeeper for Glasco, the Blue Flame Gas Co., Jill's Stitchery and Ron Theisen Transport.
She was a Past Matron of Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the White Shrine and the Garden Club of Middletown.
She enjoyed all kinds of needlework, including crochet, knitting, embroidery, cross stitch and needlepoint. She also enjoyed all sorts of card games, especially Hand & Foot and Double Deck Old Sol with partners.
Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Anne Smith of Mesa, Ariz., and Jonnetta Kay (Ron) Theisen of Dyersville; two grandchildren, Tym (Vickie) Theisen of Dyersville and Tiffinni (Matt) Deutmeyer of Dyersville; four great-grandchildren, Steven and David Theisen, Morgan and Emily Deutmeyer; and a sister, Joyce Hoffman of Des Moines.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James; and two sisters, Velma L. Brandt and Joan Henderson.
Memorials are preferred.
