Letter: Susan Mims understands Iowa City local government
Nancy Parker
Nov. 5, 2017 2:00 am
Susan Mims is running for re-election to the Iowa City Council representing District B. She has my vote.
For eight years, she has served as a moderate, practical, experienced voice on City Council. She has dedicated inordinate time to listen, learn and apply her knowledge to help solve problems and reduce divisions.
She brings a community perspective acquired through years of work with Iowa City schools, Kirkwood Community College, UI, Chamber of Commerce and local government agencies unique among council members. That involvement has also enabled her to cultivate relationships throughout the community vital to collaboration.
She applies her analytical expertise and her knowledge of finance along with her commitment to social issues to help shape policy that is realistic, fair, and fiscally responsible. Her pragmatism balances the progressive voice, both of which the City Council needs to succeed.
She is a courageous, smart, sensitive leader who knows local government, understands the issues and has the experience that will continue to benefit the Iowa City Council.
Mims has my vote on Tuesday.
