Floyd, Doris Lea
Doris Lea Floyd, 81, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. Services: 1 p.m. Monday at Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel, 1221 First Ave. SW, Cedar Rapids, by the Rev. Julie A. Schuett. Interment: First Presbyterian Cemetery, Ely. A visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Sherry (Mike) Winters of Osage, Susan (Leslie) Feyerabend of Ely and Shelly (Dennis) Huffer of Marion; a sister, Bernice Quigg of Kannapolis, N.C.; 18 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Floyd; her daughter, Sandra Gail; her parents; a sister, Gertrude Gonterman; a brother, Larry Finch; a baby sister, Laura; and a brother-in-law, Ben Quigg.
Doris was born Aug. 28, 1930, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa to Lawrence and Charlotte Finch. She married Joseph Floyd there on Aug. 26, 1950. He died in 1975. She was employed by Prairie Junior High School as kitchen manager for 25 years, retiring in 1989.
Doris was a member of First Presbyterian Church near Ely, the Rebecca Circle, and PLO Asbury United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Ely. Doris loved playing Bingo, crafts and enjoyed dancing at the Eagles Club.
