Vote for Obama, vote for Iowa

The Gazette's Sept. 23 story on campaign TV ads (“Outside groups feed Romney's ads in Iowa”) noted that nearly $30 million in television ads had been spent by presidential campaigns in Iowa this year.

Most of the super PAC ads have been on Mitt Romney's behalf with no disclosure as to who is behind the ads. One of the super PACs, however, Americans for Prosperity (AFP), has been clearly linked to the oil billionaire brothers, Charles and David Koch. In the meantime, Iowa's best interests have been thrown to the curb.

AFP urged Speaker of the House John Boehner not to bring up the farm bill, claiming: “Passing a new Farm Bill filled with special interest entitlements is not needed to address the drought facing many of our nation's farmers.” So the House Republicans left for vacation without taking up the farm bill.

Then there's the wind energy production tax credits that have brought jobs to our state - tax credits that are supported by Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley, Democratic Sen. Tom Harkin and Republican Gov. Terry Branstad. Again, the AFP is not on our side, calling it the “wasteful wind tax credit” that “favors certain groups over others.”

Romney is supported by AFP. AFP is no friend of Iowa. A vote for President Obama is a vote for Iowa.
