Niemann, Shirley J.
Shirley J. Niemann, 79, of Williamsburg, formerly of Brooklyn, died Saturday, May 15, 2010, at Brooklyn Community Estate in Brooklyn. Celebration of Life Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 18, at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Pastor Kirk Statler will officiate. Burial will be at Brooklyn Cemetery, Brooklyn.
She is survived by a son, Eric and Sara Niemann of Plattsburg, Mo.; and a grandson, Ethan Niemann.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Shirley was born Aug. 13, 1930, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Howard Alfred and Mary Jane “Jennie” (Morrison) Patten. She attended Brooklyn Elementary and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1948. On July 4, 1959, she was united in marriage to Charles Robert “Bob” Niemann at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn. She worked as an aide in the Brooklyn Schools and worked for the Brooklyn Chronicle and Free Press. She lived in the Brooklyn community before moving to Highland Ridge in Williamsburg in 2004.
Shirley was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, the PEO Sisterhood and the Brooklyn American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and singing in various choirs.
A memorial fund has been established for the Citizens Scholarship Fund of BGM.
