Hey, everyone. Welcome to The Walk Through, the On Iowa catch-all for news and notes that will be updated up to kickoff.
-- Sounds like true frosh DE Drew Ott has made the trip. Redshirt freshmen Riley McMinn and Melvin Spears have injuries. Not sure what they are, but Ott is the "in case of emergency DE" today.
-- There are a lot of you here today. You look marvelous.
And you're gonna get wet.
-- You know those little advertising kiosks, the short, triangle ones that you see near the end zones in lesser conferences? Those are here today. This is a Northern Illinois game. The has a Huskie in the middle and Mid-American Conference logos on the 30s.
-- Dolph believes we will see "a whole buncha" new things on offense. Reminder, he sees practice. Also, he said "we'll see whay comes out of the huddle, if there is a huddle."
Dolph straight trolling now.
-- Grounds guy just walked across the field tossing what looked like divot fill.
-- Northern Illinois out for a quick warmup. They're now strolling into the lockerroom.
-- Broderick Binns on the radio. He's out at the tailgate. Sounds like he's having fun. Binns was at Karl Klug's wedding last spring when he got the call for a free agent deal with Arizona. He's since been cut. Lots of Hawkeyes cut yesterday.
Are you surprised Marvin McNutt got cut? Remember, he was a sixth-round wide receiver. Sixth-round wide receivers get cut a lot.
-- The QBs and specialists are tossing the ball on the sidelines. No idea why. I'm seeing several different pairs of cleats. Expermenting?
-- The Iowa specialists are out. It was fun to type that. Senior Trent Mossbrucker made the tip. Iowa has three scholarship kickers here. Jonny Mullings not here.
-- Mike Meyer good from 30. Marshall Koehn also here. Only punters warming up are Connor Kornbrath and John Wienke.
-- Meyer hits left upright from 38 left hash. Second time he's done that. Good on next try. Koehn made 1 of 2 from 45. Meyer didn't attempt a kick past 38.
-- Lester Erb spent a bit of time with Connor Kornbrath in warmps. First start for the true frosh.
-- Stadium clock says 53 minutes to kick.
-- Frosh in uni: Garmon, Fleming, Smith, Malloy, Buford. Ryan Ward, Drew Ott, Beathard. Daumantas.
-- Rob Brooks, Iowa sideline reporter, says RB Jordan Canzeri could be back in two weeks. Ferentz has never put a time on it.
-- In the team, SS Tom Donatell was with the No. 1s and Nico Law with the 2s.
-- One frosh missed was Sean Draper. He's in as a No. 2 corner.
-- OK, team into the lockerroom. 26 minutes to kick.
-- Both coordinators in press box for the first time since Ferentz arrived at Iowa.
-- Ed Podolak: Little quicker throwing. On D, more nickel, dime and blitz. Zone runs will continue to be bread and butter. More stunting on the DL. Try to give chance to penetrate. Combo rushes up front.
Solider Field is 'Huskie Country,' in case you were wondering. (Me)
