Richard William Riley, 83, entered into the Arms of Our Lord on Monday,
July 14, 2014. He passed away peacefully at his home, with his loving
family by his side.
Born in Cedar Rapids on
May 20, 1931, son of the late William Thomas and Nellie G. Riley, he served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Coral Sea. After military service, he worked at General Electric Company in Schenectady, N.Y., for many years before moving back to Cedar Rapids. Dick was creative and enjoyed running his own businesses from selling antiques, building pools or doing lawn care and maintenance tasks for others. He had a great sense of humor and his laughter was contagious along with his whistling of favorite tunes.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Stephanie Gesek Riley; his two children, Richard (Ann) of Coralville and Sue (Keith) Weller of Central City; his grandchildren, Charlie (fiancee Brandy), Andrew and Ryan (Mia) Riley and Katie and Sam (fiancee Ashley) Weller; two great-granddaughters, Aurora and Selene Riley; and his brothers, Francis of Cedar Rapids and Bill (Barb) of Mountain Home, Ark.
He is also survived
by several nieces and
nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Harold and Eugene.
All who knew him will sincerely miss him.
Friends and family are invited to a visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 17, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home with a vigil and rosary service beginning at 5 p.m. A memorial mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, followed by inurnment with military honors at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Hospice team for their wonderful support during the past few months.
Memorial contributions in memory of Dick may be sent to Hospice of Mercy or St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Cedar Rapids.
