As of 7:50 a.m. this morning the Coralville lake measured at 700.67 feet above sea level - and falling.
John Castle, the operations manager at Coralville Lake said the West Over Look Boat Ramp joins the Mehaffey Boat Ramp in being open, and that he expects more areas to be open this weekend: including the Lake Macbride Boat Ramp, some of the beach area and more campsites.
Castle said the other ramps usually open when the lake reaches 700 feet above sea level, and the lake has been losing about three quarters of a foot a day and is nearing that level.
He also said he expects the beach to open, but warned that there isn't much sand visible yet.
“There is a real limited amount of sand.” he said. “If the normal number of people show up we will have a lot of disappointed people.”
Castle said their should be a lot more beach available after the next two weekends.
He also said about one-half to two-thirds of the campsites will be open this weekend, and he predicted by the following weekend all the campsites should be open again.
