Bob Bruce, host of WMT-AM's Bob Bruce Radio Experience, is a reader of newspaper Web sites. Which, besides the fact he has me on his show at 5:10 p.m. each Monday and Wednesday, makes him a Friend of the Hlog.
Bob sent me a couple of items from Twin Cities newspaper sites on Friday, and I'm forward them to you.
Sid Hartman, who has been covering sports in the Twin Cities since the Mississippi River was formed, has this note in his Friday column in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Josh Oglesby, an outstanding junior basketball player from Washington High School in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, visited the Gophers campus on Thursday.
Yesterday I passed on the blurb about Jarrod Uthoff of Cedar Rapids Jefferson visiting Indiana and Butler on Wednesday.
It appears there is high school basketball being played in Cedar Rapids.
Hartman's rival notes columnist in the Twin Cities is Charley Walters of the St. Paul Pioneer Press. Friday, Walters had this item about new Iowa State men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg:
Two days before Fred Hoiberg accepted the men's basketball coaching job at his alma mater, Iowa State, the Timberwolves' assistant general manager telephoned Wolves owner Glen Taylor seeking permission to pursue the job.
Taylor not only gave permission, he told Hoiberg he would work on his behalf for the job. In return, Taylor told Hoiberg he expects him to develop some players for the Wolves.
Iowa State was the only coaching job for which Hoiberg would have left the Timberwolves.
Walters added this later in the column:
Don't be surprised if new Iowa State men's basketball coach Fred Hoiberg, the former Timberwolves assistant GM, pursues former Wolves assistant Ed Pinckney as an assistant for the Cyclones.
Pinckney was an assistant coach at Villanova from 2003 through 2007 for Jay Wright before taking an assistant's job with the Timberwolves.
