Lower sales tax to help ‘Buy Iowan’

I read the June 18 article, “Branstad supports Internet sales tax change,” regarding Gov. Terry Branstad wanting to level the sales tax playing field and working on ways to collect Iowa sales tax when Iowa folks buy online or go to another state for purchases so they can save a certain tax amount. He even said, “I've committed that whatever additional revenue the state of Iowa would receive would go to reduce taxes.”
Yeah, right. Let's see. He wants to raise taxes so he can lower taxes.
I believe there is a much better idea to keep people shopping in Iowa and level the sales tax playing field. Simply do away with, or really lower drastically, the state sales tax so everybody in Iowa, surrounding states and everywhere would want to “Buy Iowan.”
