Artz, Georgia Irene
Georgia Irene Artz, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at Living Center West Care Center, Cedar Rapids. Private family services have been held. Arrangements with Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Irene was born Aug. 15, 1922, in Butler, Mo., the daughter of George and Ethel (Eaton) Hertz. In 1942, she married Louis Fuhrmeister, and, in 1946, she married Albert Artz. Irene worked in retail for several years in Cedar Rapids and for the University of Iowa from 1980 until 1987.
She was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids and enjoyed garage sales, crafting, and most of all her grandchildren.
Survivors include her children, Spencer Artz and wife Chris of Venice, Fla., Patricia Hoxworth of Iowa City and Richard Fuhrmeister and wife Barb of Vancouver, Wash.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Ray Hertz; sister, Betty Moore; and a grandson, Bret Artz.
