Seven heaven: Kernels topple Peoria, 8-3

PEORIA, Ill. - The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored five runs in the third inning and went on to stomp the Peoria Chiefs, 8-3, Tuesday night, completing a four-game sweep of their Midwest League series.
The Kernels improved their MWL-best record to 79-46 overall, adding three runs in the fourth. Tim Atherton improved to 7-4, going the first six innings and allowing all three Chiefs runs.
Max Kepler had two hits and two RBIs for Cedar Rapids, which begins a series Wednesday night at Quad Cities. Niko Goodrum and Bo Altobelli also had two hits each for the Kernels.
Adam Brett Walker drove in a pair of runs to increase his season RBI total to 106.
