Vanourny, Emily
Emily Vanourny, 98, of Fairfax, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012, at Heritage Nursing and Rehab Center in Cedar Rapids. Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids, located at 2121 Bowling St. SW. Burial will follow in Blain Cemetery, Swisher. Visitation will be one hour before services Friday at Brosh Chapel in Cedar Rapids.
Emily Raim was born June 14, 1913, in Swisher, the daughter of Lewis and Frances (Drahos) Raim. She was united in marriage to Allan Vanourny on July 10, 1940. Together they partnered in farming in the Walford area for many years, retiring to Fairfax in 1979. Emily was known for her baking, especially her kolaches, pies and cakes which she generously shared. Emily enjoyed fishing, square dancing and being with her husband and best friend, Allan. She will be fondly remembered by all whose lives she touched.
Emily is survived by a nephew, Kenneth (Marcella) Raim of North Liberty; a brother-in-law, Louis Vanourny of Fairfax; a sister-in-law, Martha Vanourny of Marion; and many other nieces and nephews.
Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Allan on July 8, 2011; sisters, Albia Raim and Marie (Mary) Bistricky; and brothers, William Raim, Louis Raim, Jerry Raim and Lester Raim.
