Traffic cameras make drivers accountable
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Feb. 19, 2011 8:00 am
Sen. Brad Zahn wants to tell all Iowa cities how to run their business by making traffic cameras illegal because he was held responsible for his son breaking the law in Cedar Rapids with the senator's vehicle.
My argument is not whether cameras should be legal. Sen. Zahn is stating that another driver in his car leaves him void of responsibility for that driver's error. It's obvious the senator has never hired drivers for a fleet of vehicles or he would know reckless drivers would put his fleet in the shed because of insurance cancellations and state controls.
