CENTER POINT - Two people were hurt when a car pulled out in front of a pickup a few miles east of Center Point on Thursday.
Brian J. Maloney, 36, of Central City, was driving the pickup east on Central City Road around 4:20 p.m. when a car driven by Matthew L. Fiala, 17, of Troy Mills, pulled in front of him at the intersection of Troy Mills Road, according to the Linn County Sheriff's Office.
Sgt. Gary VanCura said Fiala stopped at the stop sign as he was headed south, but then preceded into the intersection into the path of Maloney's pickup.
Maloney and the lone passenger in his pickup, 9-year-old Connor R. Maloney, were taken to St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Fiala and the passenger in his car, 17-year-old Joseph R. Greif, of Central City, both refused medical treatment at the scene. All of the drivers and passengers were wearing seat belts, authorities said.
Fiala was charged with failure to yield. The accident remains under investigation.
