Council not listening to residents on chickens
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jan. 22, 2010 11:42 pm
I am writing to express my deep disappointment and frustration at the City Council's decision to table the discussion of urban chickens in Iowa City. The council has a clear mandate from the residents of the city to at least consider the ordinance, as evidenced by the petition that was circulated and presented to the council. Choosing to abstain from the discussion because the council members already have decided their positions on the issue is a failure of the council to represent its constituents.
The residents deserve to be heard, regardless of the current opinion of council members. I strongly urge the council to reconsider and immediately reschedule discussion of the urban chicken ordinance.
