CEDAR RAPIDS -- Fewer people are applying for tax abatements than the Linn County Supervisors expected.
So far, the Treasurer's Office has received less than 400 applications for a tax forgiveness, and has processed 182. The tax loss to the city, schools and county, as of today, is $231,669.
“We're going to get, as we always do, a bunch of people at the last second,” Supervisor Linda Langston said.
Only three applications from Palo have been processed so far, Treasurer Mike Stevenson said.
Flood victims who lost the use of their property can apply for property tax forgiveness until Oct. 1.
Forms are available at www.linncounty.org or at most government offices in Cedar Rapids and Palo.
