Two hurt in North Liberty house fire

NORTH LIBERTY – Two people were treated for smoke inhalation after a fire broke out at a home at 225 Brookfield Ave., in North Liberty shortly before 8:30 p.m. last night.
The two, who lived at the home, and firefighters worked to try and rescue a family dog, but were unsuccessful. The name of the two people and their conditions was not available. They were transported to University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.
Firefighters said the occupants discovered the fire when they arrived home.
Fire crews found smoke and fire coming from the front of the one-story home when they arrived. It took 20 minutes to get the fire under control and about an hour to fully extinguish.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. A preliminary damage loss is estimated at $70,000.
