Dyer, Alfred Gordon
Alfred Gordon Dyer, 86, of Manchester, died Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. He was born Oct. 10, 1926, on the parental farm three miles southeast of Manchester. Gordon received his education, grades one through eight, at Milo #1 school and graduated from Manchester High School in 1943. Gordon entered the United States Army on Dec. 8, 1944, and was honorably discharged on Aug. 23, 1946.
He returned to Manchester and worked at Barron Motors. Gordon married Dorthy Eileen Ashline on May 1, 1948. They made their home in Manchester until they started farming in 1950. In 1966, Gordon started to work at Collins Radio, but continued to live in Manchester. Three children were born to this union.
Gordon was a long time member of the Manchester United Methodist Church. In retirement, Gordon enjoyed woodworking and traveling (Gordon and Dorthy visited 46 states plus Canada and Mexico). Gordon was an extremely loving, caring and devoted husband, father and grandfather and was much loved by all of his family.
Survivors include his three children, Gordon R. (Linda) Dyer of Iowa City, Katherine E. D. (John) Cameron of Madison Heights, Mich. and Paul M. (Martha) Dyer of Durango, Colo.; six grandchildren, Kelli (Steve) Udelhofen of Royal Oak, Mich., Mary (Aaron) Pasker of Cedar Rapids, William Cameron of Williamsport, Pa., Brad (Kali) Fassett of Durango, Colo., Brian (Kate) Fassett of West Linn, Ore. and Jeff (Jamie) Fassett of San Acacia, N.M.; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Alfred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorthy on Aug. 30, 2011; his brother, John (Francis) Dyer; and his sisters, Viola (Walter) Boss and Wilhelmena (Martin) Fedelleck.
Memorials may be designated to The Meadows or Manchester United Methodist Church.

Funeral Service: 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 20, at United Methodist Church in Manchester with the Rev. Mike Druhl officiating. Visitation: 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home & Crematory in Manchester. Interment: Oakland Cemetery, Manchester.
