Hearing set in Iowa City March 8 on MidAmerican electric rate hike

The Iowa Utilities Board will hold six public comment meetings on a MidAmerican Energy electric rate increase request to be filed next week.
Des Moines-based MidAmerican has indicated it plans to raise customer bills by an average of 3-4 percent this year to recover rising environmental compliance and energy production costs.
Customer letters going out this month will explain plans to raise to adjustment clauses on customer bills beginning in March.
The increases are subject to Iowa Utilities Board approval.
